Jeanette
Fisher discovered the psychology of residential design the hard way. She and her family restored an 1878 Queen Anne Victorian home, which later became the Minute Maid Orange Juice Bed & Breakfast. While undertaking this 6,000 square-foot rehabilitation, Jeanette discovered that design details significantly influence our happiness. After tearing apart their kitchen and remodeling the space using traditional interior design details she learned in college, the kitchen "felt" all wrong!
For the next 15 years, Jeanette researched how our physiological responses to our surroundings affect our emotions. She researched at the
University of Florida Architectural Library and obtained further materials on the psychological impact of design from the Harvard University Department of Architecture. Jeanette has a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethune Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Florida. She continues her research at the University of California.
As a member of the City of Palatka Historic Preservation Board for over nine years, Jeanette appeared on national television as an old house advocate. She was also a contributing writer to local newspapers. Currently, Jeanette teaches Psychology of Residential Design and real estate and is a frequent radio guest as an expert in Design Psychology and real estate investing.
The entire Fisher family helped with experiments on their 1878 Queen Anne Victorian home. Although the Fisher's began buying houses and fixing them for resale in the 1970's, after they started applying Design Psychology to transform "doghouses into dollhouses" they realized a significant increase in real estate investment profits. The Fisher's raised seven children in Florida. The family returned to California for the dry climate for Sara.
